“Food and art brings us together,” Covina Mayor Jorge Marquez
By Debra Muzikar
The Art of Autism is honored to be a participating group in an exhibit titled Essence: An Exhibit by Exceptional Artists held at the H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III Cultural and Art Museum in Covina from June 3 to June 10, 2017.
The reception for the exhibit was on Saturday, June 3. The Art of Autism is grateful to the President of the Museum, Dr. Brian Tyan, and all the people who made this exhibit possible. Many dignitaries turned out to the reception for this event including Jorge Marquez, the Mayor of Covina and John King from the City Council. After the event Mayor Marquez shared photos of the event with the hashtag #ArtBringsUsTogether.
Also making an appearance was Miss Covina 2017, Briana Dababneh. My son Kevin Hosseini, who was an artist in the exhibit was thrilled to have his picture taken with Briana.
There was standing room only under the large canopy in the park. The Art of Autism thanks Dani Bowman, Joe Mantegna, and Mia Mantegna for speaking about the importance of art to our community. I was also delighted that new Art of Autism Board member Carly Fulgham was able to make the event. This was the first time I had the opportunity to meet Carly in person. I was impressed with Carly and her license plate on her automobile “AUT EVO” which she explained stands for Autism Evolution.
Below is a video of Dani Bowman’s speech.
Thank you Art of Autism participating artists – Dani Bowman, Max LaBeznik, Joel Anderson, Mia Mantegna, Syance Wilson, Kevin Hosseini, Andrew Mendoza, Frank Allen, Justin Canha, Susan Brown, Luna TMG, Sheila Mahon and Sophie Barnum.
