Contestants must submit a fun sock design

As part of its Giving Back Program and its mission to show what people can do when given a chance, John’s Crazy Socks is sponsoring an Autism Can Do Scholarship. This program will present a $3,000 scholarship to a person on the autism spectrum in the United States to use at a college or trade school.

John Cronin, a young man with Down Syndrome who founded John’s Crazy Sock with his Dad, says, “We want this scholarship to show the world what people with autism can do and we want to help people make their dreams come true.”

They have been inspired by our colleague, Matt Carvajal, one of our Sock Wranglers. Matt has Asperger’s, a form of autism, and yet that does not stand in his way of enrolling in college. Matt has started his studies at Farmingdale State College. Matt says, “Working at John’s Crazy socks has given me the confidence to know I can go to college and do more.”

John’s Crazy Socks Autism Can Do Scholarship will award $3,000 to a person on the Autism spectrum residing in the United States. This person must also be attending or will be attending an accredited college, university, or trade school.

To enter the competition for the scholarship, a person must complete a brief application, provide a brief statement and submit a sock design.

“Yes, we want applicants to design a sock and we will produce that sock and sell it in our store with proceeds going to support future scholarships. You need not have a background in fashion or design to submit a design, only an active imagination.”

What are they looking for in a sock design?

Be fun!
Be creative!
Design something you would love to wear!

Participants must agree to promoting the scholarship and the sock design on social media posts and allow his or her name to be used in those promotions. The winner will receive the $3,000 scholarship paid to the school where he or she is enrolled.

How to Apply?

You can find the application here. Deadline is December 15, 2018.

Have some fun. Take a chance. Let your creativity flow in designing a sock. Most of all, show us what you can do.

The application is hosted by the innovative firm, ScholarJet, which provides a web platform for action-based scholarship programs.
