I am an artist (or, I like to use the word autist) with a particular interest in the human face. I struggle a bit with face blindness in day to day interaction, but when I paint someone, I get lost in the details of their unique face. I feel that autism is what allows me to see minor details that most others don’t seem to notice–the particular lines and curves, the variation in colors, the texture of the skin and hair. Details like laugh lines, moles, and supposed imperfections which make up an individual human face are more beautiful to me by far than any airbrushed Hollywood star.

Here is a video of one me creating one of the portraits below:

Hi Nik, your artwork is beautiful! To struggle with face blindness and then to create such detailed, exquisite art of human faces is stunning to me. I feel like I have the opposite issue – I recognize faces of people I have seen pretty easily, but I’m not as observant when it comes to the details. I love your descriptions of the “imperfections” that make people beautiful, and I totally agree with you. Thank you so much for sharing your art with us!
