Autism Unveiled Week 6
Who am I?
I am a successfully married , stay home mother of three. I’m the cleaner, organizer, taxi, comforter, chef, resident problem solver, finder of lost things, strength, and glue in our family.
How is Autism part of me?
It is me. It is my daughter. It is my youngest son. It is our strength and our struggle.
Lover of small things. Collecter of the broken. Seeker of the beautiful.
Finder of the strange.
Hide and seek behind gossamer veils. Child like wonder with fear of change.
Meticulously chosen masks. Minute by minute. Smile. Don’t. Fix your face.
Such a daunting task to keep up with your pace.
Artist, teacher , mother , and poet with life spent rapped tightly within my cocoon.
Story time at night of flying away to dance with the moon.
Sunshine upon my porcelain skin. Breeze gently kissing my cheeks.
Bunnies, dragons and horses in clouds. Lady bug on her finger brings joy that she seeks.
So close yet so far is he of my womb.
Remembering him sleeping on the floor of my room.
Hugs aren’t often from the youngest of three.
Yet a sense of love from eyes looking to me.
Lost in a world I still have yet to learn.
In our quest four curiosities burn.
If only the she that these little three see could be the face I wear to the outer world.
Will this forever be what all of you see? The odd , broken and misunderstood girl?
Is this the way my world has to be?
Forced to hide the she that is me?

Reading this, I hoped so much that you and yours lived nearby. I feel like we would all be very in tune. Alas, Texas and Vermont are purdy durn far…
Beautiful poem, beautiful family and mama…THANK YOU!
